Why is the public so silent to the real loss of independent thought, personal choice and diversity? These recent items in the national news require the reader to look for the nexus between political parties, media monopolies and big money influence over politics and social issues.
The media would have us fearful of the ability for individuals to give privately to political candidates of their own choice, but no fear is sown for mega-media monopolization. Over the past ten years the progressive mafia have made it their business to whack anyone who they perceive to be a threat to their agenda. Look at what happened to a Brendan Eich, CEO of Mozilla. The fascist behavior and intolerance is on full display. It does not change limits, though, on individual contributions for president or Congress, currently set at $2,600 per election.
Chief Justice John Roberts announced the decision, which split the court's liberal and conservative justices.
“Money in politics may at times seem repugnant to some, but so too does much of what the First Amendment vigorously protects,” Roberts wrote in the majority opinion. “If the First Amendment protects flag burning, funeral protests and Nazi parades – despite the profound offense such spectacles cause – it surely protects political campaign speech despite popular opinion.”
The overall limits "intrude without justification on a citizen's ability to exercise `the most fundamental First Amendment activities,"' Roberts said, quoting from the court's seminal 1976 campaign finance ruling in Buckley v. Valeo. Justice Clarence Thomas agreed with the outcome of the case, but wrote separately to say that he would have gone further and wiped away all contribution limits.
Others, though, described the ruling as a major blow to vital campaign finance rules.
Continue reading article at this link.

How Comcast Bought the Democratic Party

A huge merger brought about by high-intensity lobbying goes unopposed.

By Matthew Continetti

The communications giant Comcast announced in February that it would buy Time Warner Cable for $45 billion, creating the largest cable provider in America, with more than 33 million customers. That is about one third of the U.S. cable- and satellite-television market. FCC approval is required for the merger to go into effect. Critics of the deal say it would lessen competition and lead to even shoddier customer service. They are probably right, as all of us will soon find out, because there is little chance the merger will be stopped. Comcast, Time Warner, and their political fixers have spent years preparing for this moment — by buying off the Democratic party.
Comcast, which employs more than 100 lobbyists, spent almost $19 million last year on lobbying activities. Its president and CEO, Brian L. Roberts, is a golf buddy of President Obama’s, and a Democratic donor who has contributed thousands of dollars not only to the president’s campaigns, but also to the Democratic party of Pennsylvania, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the DNC Services Corporation, and to Steny Hoyer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Bob Casey. Roberts’s executive vice president, David Cohen, is a former aide to Democratic bigwig Ed Rendell. Cohen skirts lobbying regulations through loopholes, has raised more than $2 million for Obama since 2007, and in 2011 hosted a DNC fundraiser at which the president called him “friend.” Cohen has visited the White House 14 times since 2010, including two visits to the Oval Office. He attended the recent dinner for President Hollande of France.
Cohen plays a major role in the Comcast Foundation, which has disbursed more than $3 billion since 2001, primarily to “groups that serve African-Americans, Latinos, and Asians” and other segments of the Democratic coalition. You will be surprised to learn that many of the groups to whom the Comcast Foundation has donated now support the proposed merger. Of the $33 million Comcast has spent on political campaigns since 1989, more than half, or some $18 million, has gone to Democrats. Barack Obama is No. 1 on the list of the top ten recipients of Comcast’s largesse. They noted that the front page had pointed to the White House website for a while, but you could still access a variety of old material and agendas. They were wondering why the administration would suddenly pull all that interesting archival information... and hit upon a clue. A little bit from the "ethics agenda":
Protect Whistleblowers: Often the best source of information about waste, fraud, and abuse in government is an existing government employee committed to public integrity and willing to speak out. Such acts of courage and patriotism, which can sometimes save lives and often save taxpayer dollars, should be encouraged rather than stifled. We need to empower federal employees as watchdogs of wrongdoing and partners in performance. Barack Obama will strengthen whistleblower laws to protect federal workers who expose waste, fraud, and abuse of authority in government. Obama will ensure that federal agencies expedite the process for reviewing whistleblower claims and whistleblowers have full access to courts and due process.
Yeah. That statement seems a bit embarrassing at the very same time Obama's administration is threatening trade sanctions against anyone who grants asylum to Ed Snowden. Also... at the same time that we get to see how whistleblower Bradley Manning's "full access to courts and due process" will turn out. So far, it's been anything but reasonable, considering that the UN has already condemned Manning's treatment as "cruel and inhuman." The Federal Governments actions to inventory the private citizen’s of this Country is an appalling fact that this nation will regret and our children, or grandchildren and ever-after they will ask us; “Why did everyone do nothing to stop this?” Of course, since they’ve never truly experienced the type of freedom I had in my youth, they’ll never know what was stolen from them.

If we do not protect all of your civil rights, we will soon have no civil rights. Obtaining it also would aid in deciphering encrypted devices in situations where passwords are reused.
"I've certainly seen them ask for passwords," said one Internet industry source who spoke on condition of anonymity. "We push back."
A second person who has worked at a large Silicon Valley company confirmed that it received legal requests from the federal government for stored passwords. Companies "really heavily scrutinize" these requests, the person said. "There's a lot of 'over my dead body.'"
Some of the government orders demand not only a user's password but also the encryption algorithm and the so-called salt, according to a person familiar with the requests. A salt is a random string of letters or numbers used to make it more difficult to reverse the encryption process and determine the original password. Other orders demand the secret question codes often associated with user accounts.
"This is one of those unanswered legal questions: Is there any circumstance under which they could get password information?"
--Jennifer Granick, Stanford University
Click here to read the full article.

LiveJournal Tags: Bill of Rights,Deception,Surveillance,Spy,Spying,Federal Government,President,National Security,Patriotism,Politics,Inventory,Controlled Society,Agenda 21
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-2688200883665813042013-07-07T12:38:00.001-07:002013-07-07T12:53:16.411-07:00We Will No Longer Accept the Lies!
Is this the message that will register with the voters for 2014? “No More Lies,” was the speech delivered by Glenn Beck, in Washington D.C., on June 19th, 2013. With all of the recent deception that has been revealed on major incidents that under normal circumstances should have demanded for recalls, firings and even impeachment of political leaders for their actions, I wonder if people would recognize the truth if it stared them in the face?

Benghazi / Fast and Furious / Tea Party vs. IRS / NSA violation of the 4th Amendment

The 2014 election cycle for Washington State and Whatcom County is an opportunity to put people into office who are principled believers in the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Washington State Constitution (view electronic image of the original WA State Constitution here). The past week Glenn Beck appeared to be suffering from laryngitis, but has now had it confirmed that he is suffering from temporary paralysis of his larnyx. If "We the People," were unable to hear Glenn Beck speak the truth aloud again, would we stop listening or working to restore Ameriica? I want to personally thank Glenn Beck for everything he's done thus far and to let him know that I would miss hearing him deliver his monologues, or speaking truth to adversity, but I would understand if he were unable to return to the full-time radio and TV. Glenn Beck has truly changed a lot of peoples lives and I know that he's changed mine forever.

This site is dedicated to highlight progressive policies that I believe are deleterious to “We the People.” Today I found an article through The Drudge Report that could change a lot of minds on the topic of abortion.

Now I want to bring you back to what’s happening with Obamacare and the mandate by this abuse of power, that all insurers must provide abortion coverage.

Please read and share this article with others. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered for the sake of public safety of all U.S. citizens. If the main stream media will not do their job and the story from the Obama’s Executive Administration keeps changing, then we have to keep up the pressure to get real answers. We deserve it and I guess we’ll only get what we deserve if we demand it.
Contact your U.S. Congress and demand that they get to the bottom of this matter. Why was this Saudi National given a 212, 3B file? How was it removed? Was it removed? Where is Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi National? Are we truly safe in America if we don’t know the truth about all of these questions?
The Blaze has been extensively covering the strange details surrounding Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, the Saudi national who was once considered a person of interest in the Boston Marathon attacks. ‘ARMED AND DANGEROUS’: BECK’S LATEST REVELATIONS ON SAUDI NATIONAL ONCE A ‘PERSON OF INTEREST’ IN BOSTON BOMBINGS

Apr. 24, 2013 11:04am Erica Ritz
For the past week, Glenn Beck has been investigating a Saudi national once identified as a “person of interest” in the Boston Marathon bombing. The story has taken a number of alarming twists and turns, but on his radio program Wednesday, Beck released some of the most interesting information yet.
But first, here are a few background points on how the case developed:

A Saudi national originally identified as a “person of interest” in the Boston Marathon bombing was set to be deported under section 212, 3B — “Security and related grounds” — “Terrorist activities” after the bombing on April 15

TheBlaze received word that the government may not deport the Saudi national — identified as Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi — as the story gained traction on April 18.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano refused to answer questions on the subject by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) on Capitol Hill on April 18, saying the inquiry was “so full of misstatements and misapprehension that it’s just not worthy of an answer.”

(Click here to read the full story) Below is the video of Glen Beck Radio 4/24/13
EXCLUSIVE: SAUDI NATIONAL ONCE CONSIDERED ‘PERSON OF INTEREST’ MAY BE DEPORTED ON ‘SECURITY’ GROUNDS — AND HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE FRAMED

Sources tell TheBlaze that the Saudi national is set to be deported on “security and related grounds.” His visa also has been revoked. Below is some of the information that has been communicated to us:
1. One source at the FBI and another at the Saudi Embassy referred to the student as connected to an important Saudi family.
2. An “event” was created on this guy three days ago. An event is a file. The file contains his deportation record and the reason he is being deported. According to ICE the reason is under section 212 3B — “Security and related grounds” — “Terrorist activities”
3. His visa has been revoked.
4. The FBI said a file was started “just in case he was found to be connected to the crime,” however, the file shows he was scheduled to be deported. This was not a precaution, it was in “orders.”
5. One source said they believe a “voluntary” departure has been signed — that means the Saudi Student could be out of the country as early as today.
6. The file was immediately classified. We believe the deportation order will be classified as well — requiring a FOIA to get it.
7. The story was going to be “he wanted to go home,” however he was actually being deported.
8. Our source said the FBI believes the Saudi student is tied to 2 to 3 more people.
9. Our source said this “looks like they were trying to make this a ‘lone wolf’ crime so, the Saudi government would be spared embarrassment and the U.S. would avoid explaining how a terror cell was active when we had AQ on the run.”
UPDATE III (10:50 am ET):
TheBlaze Chief Content Officer Joel Cheatwood reported on “The Glenn Beck Program” Thursday morning that TheBlaze has been informed that the government is now considering not deporting Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi.
“Just got a note from one of our investigative reporters that she has been told that there is now discussion that they may not allow this man to be deported,” Cheatwood said.
All of these happened long before rise in carbon dioxide, so could not possibly have been caused by carbon dioxide.
The Bellingham Herald opinion column is a diatribe against me personally (just read the slurs and innuendos) containing misrepresentations, no real data to support their contentions, and displays an abysmal ignorance of published literature. The reason becomes apparent when you realize that not a single one of the 13 Western Washington University authors has ever published a single paper on global climate change and none have any expertise whatsoever in climate issues.
Their claim that my publications "have not passed through rigorous peer review" is false. Virtually all of my 180 publications were peer-reviewed. The real joke here is they "fully support the 2007 IPCC report," but Donna Laframboise in 2011 documented that 30 percent of the references used were not peer-reviewed, so using their own standard, they would be forced to reject the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report!
The authors claim that "CO2 is a powerful greenhouse gas" that has "significant and measureable impact on surface temperature." Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, but it has little impact on temperature because it makes up only 0.038 percent of the atmosphere, has changed only 0.008 percent since carbon dioxide rose after 1945 (if you double nothing, you still have nothing), and accounts for only 3.6 percent of greenhouse warming. Carbon dioxide is incapable of changing global temperature by more than a fraction of a degree.
The authors "decry the injection of such poor quality science into the public discourse." I work with 20 of the world's top scientists, including atmospheric physicists, astrophysicists, geologists, and marine geophysicists who wouldn't waste time working with me if my research was "of poor quality."
The authors claim that my work requires "broad, decades-long conspiracy ....to falsify climate data."
In 1999, NASA data showed the 1930s were the hottest decade of the century and 1936 the hottest year. In 2012, NASA subtracted temperatures from the 1930s data and added to recent temperatures to claim that recent years were "unprecedented and the warmest ever recorded." Check NASA data tampering at http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/data-tampering-at-ushcngiss/. This lies behind all of the false claims that recent global warming is "unprecedented."
The authors claim a "vast consensus of the science community." However, 31,487 U.S. scientists (including 9,000 with doctorates) with degrees in atmospheric, Earth sciences, physics, chemistry, biology and computer science have signed a statement that reads: "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing, or will in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate." Check names and expertise at http://www.petitionproject.org/. Signatures of 1.5 million scientists would be required to achieve the claimed "vast consensus" of scientists! The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change chairman admitted that 80 percent of the people involved in the panel were not even scientists!
The WWU faculty was challenged to debate the issues. The response from David Hirsh was: "I don't want the media to present both sides of an issue." "Well, the problem is it's not 'my' science. I do not now, nor have I claimed to be an expert in climate science. The question was would I support a debate-type forum to be hosted at WWU? I would not." He went on to say that he didn't want to debate because he had not addressed any of the scientific issues, but supported the personal attack.
So what can we conclude about The Bellingham Herald opinion column? Perhaps more than anything it shows that amateurs with no expertise in climate issues are way out of their league and would be wiser to stick to their own areas of expertise, hard rock geology. In the end, nature will tell us who is right and that is happening right now as the climate continues to cool with no warming in 15 years.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Don Easterbrook, a professor emeritus of geology at Western Washington University. It’s time to get the grassroots, common sense people to let the will of the people be heard. The Freedom Foundation has posted an online petition demanding our political leaders to “Restore the Two-Thirds,” requirement to raise taxes and make it permanent.

All it takes to effect change is to raise our voices in unison for a common cause. Washington State has increased spending above revenue projections far too long and now, due to an activist State Supreme Court (elections do have consequences) the will of the people (64% of them) has been subverted. Since Initiative 601, the voters have passed the two-thirds requirement five times. Each time it passes with an even greater majority than the last one. It’s time to send the message straight to Olympia that We the People have spoken and no less than a State Constitutional Amendment requiring the two-thirds vote of the House and Senate will do.

Please check-out the Freedom Foundation’s petition to restore the two-thirds majority vote as a constitutional amendment. And, please share this with all of your friends and family.

YiT ~ Shelly

The State Supreme Court just made it a lot easier for the legislature to raise your taxes—and we know they’re going to try.
Washington voters have repeatedly (6 times) and overwhelmingly (64% in 2012) voted to require a super-majority vote for the legislature to increase taxes or fees. Yet six State Supreme Court justices sided with special interests to strike down this law.
Some politicians claim tax hikes are essential just to support basic services. It’s an outright lie. State revenue for the next budget is projected to be $2 billion more than in the last budget, yet politicians say it’s not enough. In fact, revenue has consistently increased over time. Washington State don’t have a revenue problem—we have a spending problem.
Let’s tell Olympia, loud and clear, that we don’t need more taxes.
LiveJournal Tags: Restore,Freedom Foundation,Taxes,Two-Thirds,Majority,Raise,Increase,Washington,Washington State,State of Washington,Whatcom County,Legislature,Budget,State Constitution
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-69612550948785509462013-02-27T23:37:00.001-08:002013-02-27T23:38:06.868-08:00Woodward Questions White House Sanity over Sequester
President Obama mocked politician’s who manufacture crisis's, in his State of the Union address. How many times have I heard the President cry wolf? Even if the sky were falling, or the big bad wolf were at my door, I do not believe I would believe it to be true. In truth the sequester agreement is not a cut in the federal budget. Sequester is a reduction in the growth of federal spending and a very small reduction at that. If this fact doesn’t bother you, possibly this one will. POTUS has the ultimate say in what federal program receives less federal revenue for their budget.

Let’s imagine for one minute what that might look like in a real world. Consider this; you’ve at the grocery store to buy food for the week and you usually spend $100.00 to cover your costs. You believed you were getting an 8% raise, so you increased your food budget by 8% (that’s an extra $8.00) and you planned for $108.00 in buying power. But, then your raise was reduced to 6%, you’ve now adjusted your food budget to $106.00. You now have a few choices to make about your food purchasing choices. If you’ve already made a grocery list that uses the full $108.00 and you choose what items not to purchase from your list, based on your priorities. Or, you can buy everything that is on your list, looking for them to be on sale or a find a coupon to reduce the costs. Or, better yet, you access your preferred media resource to do comparison shopping and learn where, or what other brands, are available at reduced costs.

When faced with difficult choices a leader knows how to make a plan, prioritize and implement it. The Obama Administration, with the complicit help of the mainstream media, we are bombarded with one crisis to the next and I refuse to be Chicken Little, or Henny Penny screeching, “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!”

Winston Churchill once said; “The difference between a politician and a statesman is; a politician is always thinking about how to get elected and consolidate power. The statesman is focused on what’s best for the nation.”

It’s time for We the People to start electing statesmen who will speak the truth and make the choices needed to rebuild the publics trust in government.

YiT ~ Shelly

BOB WOODWARD: A 'Very Senior' White House Person Warned Me I'd 'Regret' What I'm Doing

Brett LoGiurato | Feb. 27, 2013, 6:53 PM | 733,723 | 733
Bob Woodward said this evening on CNN that a "very senior person" at the White House warned him in an email that he would "regret doing this," the same day he has continued to slam President Barack Obama over thelooming forced cuts known as the sequester.
CNN host Wolf Blitzer said that the network invited a White House official to debate Woodward on-air, but the White House declined.

"It makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, 'You're going to regret doing something that you believe in,'" Woodward said. Hah! Diversity at its worst and we’re paying for it! Your tax dollars and mine are being used to do this type of diversity training at all levels of government. It’s time to raise our voices and let our elected officials know how we feel about this type of indoctrination happening with our tax dollars.

If this is happening in adult settings with our government workers, can you imagine what’s happening in the public school classrooms? I shudder to think as it was shared with me that public schools (who cannot honor Christmas, Easter or any Christian celebration) commonly have special events like Karl Marx Day, and so many other anti-American, anti-Federalist, or anti-Free Market Capitalism. Our children rarely spend time studying the history of big-thinkers like President Calvin Coolidge, economists such as the late Milton Friedman or Walter Williams.

Is it really any wonder that our nation is publicly $16.6T in debt, a debt that is 74.6% of our GDP now, and an external debt to GDP ration of 99.8%? Just for kicks I checked out how the State of Washington is doing in comparison, but you should remember that States are actually supposed to abide by a balanced budget. So, even though the State of Washington appears to be doing much better than the Federal government, Washington State does spend more than we pay-in. The State of Washington has a debt to GDP ratio of 20.5%. If that made you feel better, try this on for size. The State of California’s debt to GDP ratio is 20.4%. But heck, remember that statement from President Obama at the, no so long ago, State of the Union Address? I am paraphrasing here, but the President said; “We are living at a time where many political parties are manufacturing crisis after crisis.”

What I’m asking you, if you’ve taken the time to check-in and read this posting, have you, will you take the time to contact your political representatives? Tell them to stop wasting tax dollars. Tell them that they could start by demanding that we stop promoting events like the one I’ve shared with you here.

YiT ~ Shelly

Your browser does not support iframes.

LiveJournal Tags: USDA,Sensitivity Training,Whistle Blower,Debt,Spending,Federal Government,State Government,Washington,California,Glenn Beck
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-38301734104985082942013-02-10T22:35:00.001-08:002013-02-10T22:38:03.817-08:00Governor Jay Inslee Pushes for Increased Electrical Rates
The 2013 legislative year has just started and our new Governor, Jay Inslee, has become an advocate for higher electrical rates. Governor Inslee denies that hydropower is green power, if not greener, than wind, solar, thermal, bio-fuels, et al. The rest of the United States agrees that hydropower is green power. I guess we know something they don’t?

Governor Inslee states, “promoting hydropower as green power would be a step backwards?” How can someone achieve his level of political power and not understand basic physics? Or, how can anyone deny that hydro-power (which the State of Washington has a lot of) meets green energy standards? There’s no common sense in his thought process? Is there an ulterior motive that we are not being told? Could any of this be interconnected to the Native Indian’s push to shut down and remove dams in Washington State? Could any of this be related to the Earth First, Re-wilding Project? We must ask Governor Inslee why? And, please do not accept answers that fly in the face of logic. Wind and solar power, both require fossil fuels and precious metals to be extracted to produce their structures. The amount of power they create is miniscule in comparison to hydro, natural gas, nuclear or fossil fuels. Their mere existence for operation, wastes more beautiful natural landscape than I can imagine, kills birds, sterilizes the soil and wastes precious resources above and below the earth. That doesn’t even begin to deal with its effect on the cost of power, one of our most basic needs. We have the ability to deliver energy in plentiful supply, to insure that it is affordable and does not waste more power than it produces.

Please contact Governor Inslee and weigh-in on this issue. While you’re at it, ask him to slow down on implementation of health exchanges in Washington State. Everyday I read horror stories on the affect that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is having on health insurance costs. The term Health Care means caring for peoples health and governments role in this process is just wrong.

YiT ~ Shelly

New Western governor sets his sights on climate change solutions

January 18, 2013 | By David Horsey / Los Angeles Times
When we were classmates at Ingraham High School in Seattle, Jay Inslee was quarterback of the football team and a key player on the state champion basketball squad. I was a fledgling cartoonist and editorial writer on the student newspaper. On Wednesday afternoon, as I watched Inslee shoot hoops with his buddies under the new backboard he had just put up on his garage, it struck me that some things have not changed. It was still basketballs for him, cartoons for me.

But, in truth, the change is rather dramatic. My bio now starts with the phrase “two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner.” Inslee, as a congressman, threw elbows and blocked shots on the White House basketball court with President Obama. And now, that hoop and net he just installed is attached to the garage outside the governor's mansion in Olympia, Wash. As of Wednesday, his bio has a new top line: 23rd governor of the state of Washington. Click here to read the full story.

Inslee says GOP going backward in Senate

Gov. Jay Inslee waded into the legislative fray Wednesday with his most pointed comments so far in state lawmakers’ 25-day-old session, taking aim squarely at ideas put forward by the Republican-dominated Senate majority.
JORDAN SCHRADER; staff writer Published: Feb. 7, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. PST
Gov. Jay Inslee waded into the legislative fray Wednesday with his most pointed comments so far in state lawmakers’ 25-day-old session, taking aim squarely at ideas put forward by the Republican-dominated Senate majority.
“I’m very concerned that the Senate already has gone backwards on two areas,” the Democratic governor said, citing workers’ compensation and clean energy – and then adding a third to his list, a GOP proposal to require parents be notified before their underage daughter has an abortion.
But Inslee stopped short of any veto threat. “I’m developing what I hope will be (a) good working relationship with legislators, and the third week of the session is probably a little early, too early, to start waving around red pens real vocally,” he said.
Inslee took office Jan. 16, two days after a coalition of 23 Republicans and two Democrats took power in the Senate and elevated one of the Democrats, Medina’s Rodney Tom, as leader of their business-friendly majority.

GREEN POWER MANDATES QUESTIONED
“I had some businesspeople in here last week,” Tom told reporters in his office after Inslee’s news conference, “and they were talking about, it’s funny that Washington’s the only state in the nation that doesn’t recognize hydro as a renewable power resource, when we are kind of the front-runners on that.” Click here to read the full story.
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-18352284301000880242013-01-27T20:27:00.001-08:002013-01-28T09:49:22.494-08:00Score “One” for the Constitution v. The judges ruled that the appointments he made to the National Labor Relations Board are illegal, and hence the five-person board did not have a quorum to operate.
But the ruling has even broader constitutional significance, with the judges arguing that the president’s recess appointment powers don’t apply to “intra-session” appointments — those made when Congress has left town for a few days or weeks. They said Mr. Obama erred when he said he could claim the power to determine when he could make appointments.
“Allowing the president to define the scope of his own appointments power would eviscerate the Constitution’s separation of powers,” the judges said in their opinion.
The judges said presidents’ recess powers only apply after Congress has adjourned a session permanently, which in modern times usually means only at the end of a year. If the ruling withstands Supreme Court scrutiny, it would dramatically constrain presidents in the future
Read more:http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jan/25/federal-court-obama-broke-law-recess-appointments/#ixzz2JEx3JfOr
Follow us: @washtimes on Twitter

LiveJournal Tags: U.S. Courts,Landmark Legal Foundation,Recess Appointments,NLRB,Executive Office,President Obama,Separation of Powers

Of course the NLRB feels very confident that President Obama’s appointments will be upheld; so why adhere to a pesky verdict from an insignificant decision that goes against them? By David Mamet.

Karl Marx summed up Communism as “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” This is a good, pithy saying, which, in practice, has succeeded in bringing, upon those under its sway, misery, poverty, rape, torture, slavery, and death.

‘In announcing his gun control proposals, President Obama said that he was not restricting Second Amendment rights, but allowing other constitutional rights to flourish.’

For the saying implies but does not name the effective agency of its supposed utopia. The agency is called “The State,” and the motto, fleshed out, for the benefit of the easily confused must read “The State will take from each according to his ability: the State will give to each according to his needs.” “Needs and abilities” are, of course, subjective. So the operative statement may be reduced to “the State shall take, the State shall give.”

All of us have had dealings with the State, and have found, to our chagrin, or, indeed, terror, that we were not dealing with well-meaning public servants or even with ideologues but with overworked, harried bureaucrats. These, as all bureaucrats, obtain and hold their jobs by complying with directions and suppressing the desire to employ initiative, compassion, or indeed, common sense. They are paid to follow orders.

Rule by bureaucrats and functionaries is an example of the first part of the Marxist equation: that the Government shall determine the individual’s abilities.

As rules by the Government are one-size-fits-all, any governmental determination of an individual’s abilities must be based on a bureaucratic assessment of the lowest possible denominator. Click here to read the full story.

LiveJournal Tags: Second Amendment,Gun Control,Mamet,Fear and Envy,Government,Communism,Marx,Common Sense
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-29277045017973983522013-01-16T23:31:00.001-08:002013-01-16T23:31:56.795-08:00Will History Repeat Itself Again? “Tyrants, Gun-Control & Children”
It’s not often that I find it necessary to repost an entire article. If we apply the same logic to all of the costs that are being heaped upon people for potential ecological degradation from human activity, we should also benefit from the benefits that those same human activities cause. There is no justifiable reason not to look at all sides of an issue to come to a conclusion. The laws of physics taught mankind long ago that for every action, there is a re-action. Likewise, for every cost there is a benefit.

Enjoy the article and share widely.

YiT ~ Shelly

Posted on January 11, 2013 by Willis Eschenbach

I see that the New York Times (NYT) is going to close their environmental desk. Given that there still are actual environmental problems on the planet, I consider the closing as a sad commentary on the hijacking of the environmental movement by carbon alarmists. CO2 alarmism has done huge damage to the environmental movement, and thus to the environment itself.
In any case, a few months ago in the NYT Green Blog they talked about “monetizing” the “social cost” of carbon. The article said:

In 2010, 12 government agencies working in conjunction with economists, lawyers and scientists, agreed to work out what they considered a coherent standard for establishing the social cost of carbon. The idea was that, in calculating the costs and benefits of pending policies and regulations, the Department of Transportation could not assume that a ton of emitted carbon dioxide imposed a $2 cost on society while the Environmental Protection Agency plugged 10 times that amount into its equations.

How does one “monetize” something, and what is a “social cost” when it is in its native habitat?
First, the easy one. A “social cost” is generally some estimated or inferred cost to society from something, in particular a cost that is not reflected in the price of the item itself. For example, alcohol has a social cost in the form of a variety of societal problems. That cost is not included in the raw ex-factory price of alcoholic beverages.
Next, to “monetize” a social cost means 1) to attach some monetary value to that social cost, and then 2) to attach that monetary value to the retail cost of the product in the form of an increased price. In the case of alcohol, that is usually done through government taxes. Sometimes, the revenue from these taxes is dedicated to ameliorating that social cost. In the case of alcohol, that might be in the form of alcohol dependence programs or clinics. Other times the income goes into the general fund.

My second objection is that while people are often in a hurry to monetize the social costs of something, they rarely take the necessary other step. They rarely are in a hurry to monetize the social benefits of something. But if you do one, you have to do the other. After all, this is why it’s called a “cost/benefit” analysis …
I have even had someone seriously argue that there is no need to monetize the social benefits, because they were already included in the market price. After all, he argued, the reason we buy something is because of the perceived benefits. So they are already included in the price.
I find this argument singularly unconvincing. Some benefits are already included in the price, and some aren’t. Since a single counter-example will serve to disprove the general theorem, let me take a social benefit of CO2 as an example. This is the known effect of atmospheric CO2 levels on plants, which is that they increase their production with increasing atmospheric CO2. Obviously, nobody goes out and buys gasoline for their car in order to help the plants, so it is not included in the market price. However, increased plant growth is an undoubted social benefit, a huge one that affects the whole world. Therefore, it is an un-accounted for social benefit, one which does not get included in the price.
Click here to read the full story.

LiveJournal Tags: Cap & Trade,Carbon Costs,EPA,Environment,Regulations,Taxes,Social Benefit,CO2
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-72192311425957881042012-12-30T22:41:00.001-08:002012-12-30T22:41:56.230-08:00“Smart Growth” Hidden in the Heartland of the United States…
Whether it’s called Smart Growth, Sustainability, Livability, Home, Vision, Tomorrow, Today, Friends or some other fuzzy word that doesn’t defend liberty, this lady’s got it right!

YiT ~ Shelly

“Smart Growth” Hidden in Heart of Franklin, TN

Posted by Victoria Jackson on December 14, 2012 at 12:23 pm
There’s a cancer spreading across TN…and America…It’s insidious. It’s hiding in plain sight.
I was poking around Leiper’s Fork, TN looking for country singing stars and fantasizing that I was one, and that I owned a big ol’ cattle farm when I stumbled upon a free magazine (in existence only a year) from Journal Communications, (livability.com), that had big, lush photos of Williamson County. There was a gorgeous spread about a ‘non-profit’ called, “Friends of Franklin Parks,” which upon closer examination is connected to “Franklin Tomorrow.”
I had just asked Ken Freeman, co-creator of SB 477, (the strongest protection against the UN scheme (Agenda 21) passed anywhere in America so far…and that has had “virtually no mention in the establishment press,”) what a “smart growth” meeting looks like. Surprisingly, within two days I accidentally uncovered two “smart growth” publications, three “smart growth” NGO’s, a couple “smart growth” PPP’s, and a “smart growth” mayor who were all guilty of spreading this “smart growth”-Agenda 21-redistribution-disease.
Since my “Agenda 21” radar was on alert, this “Friends of Franklin Parks” article sent giant, red flags up, flares. Not one word in the article mentioned “Sustainability,” “Smart Growth,” or “Sustainable Development,” but I could still smell the putrid scent of communism disguised as ‘a vision of Franklin’s future development.’ There were other clue-words, parks, parks, parks, grant, non-profit, PPP (public-private-partnerships), population control, foundation, umbrella, grantors, future, public garden. So sneaky. Why, what could be bad about bicycle paths, reduced traffic and parks, parks, parks? Well, taking away private property to make the parks, parks, parks is one bad thing. Stealing a private farm to make it a government-owned public farm is a very bad thing. It’s the number one goal of Marxism and the United Nation’s Agenda 21 – separate citizens from their private property.

Click here to read the full story…good stuff there!

LiveJournal Tags: Agenda 21,Cap & Trade,ICLEI,Regulations,United Nations,Friends,Vision,Community,Sustainability,Livability,Home,Park,Smart Growth
Shellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02964256615385057003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7122641848770103941.post-32497713169392348672012-12-30T21:45:00.001-08:002012-12-30T22:42:26.068-08:00OBAMA signs renewal of Foreign Surveillance Law
Isn’t he a peach!
